Employee of the Month

Shirey Handyman would like to take a moment to share some home safety reminders as we wrap up the winter season:

- Change out your furnace filters to make sure you're not breathing stale air clogged with germs and dust mites.

- Inspect your crawl space for signs of water intrusion - adequate ventilation is necessary to prevent mold and mildew caused by high humidity.

- Check your shower regularly for missing grout and failed caulking to keep water from going behind your walls.

- Replace filters to make sure that the water you're drinking is fresh.

- Clean out and inspect gutters regularly to keep water flowing properly and not overflowing to your facia boards - regular maintenance will save thousands of dollars in rot repair down the road.

Our own April Bettinger wrote an opinion piece which ran in the Seattle Times titled, "Don't forget economy's small-business backbone in stimulus efforts." Click here to read the full article.

What's New

Although it seems that the Economic Stimulus Package is all we hear about these days, it can be difficult to know exactly what it means for each of us personally. As a homeowner, one important inclusion in the stimulus bill you should be aware of is the extended tax credits for energy-efficient home improvements. The total available tax credit for greening your home has tripled from $500 to $1,500 with a credit of 30 percent of the cost of each qualified energy efficiency improvement (click here to learn more).

So while you may not be planning on selling your home any time soon, it's important to remember that a slow real estate market is the perfect time to make upgrades that will pay off when the market recovers. In fact, Puget Sound Energy offers some great rebates on qualified appliances and products that are worth checking out and we would be happy to refer you to one of our trade partners. Making your home more energy efficient not only saves you money on future utility bills, but it also contributes to a higher resale value.

There are other ways to keep the investment in your home as profitable as possible too; bathroom remodels are generally considered to have one of the biggest returns on investment. Knowing this, we came up with a way to streamline the whole bathroom remodeling process to make it as fast, easy, and economical for our clients as possible. See the Spotlight section below to learn more.

And if you are thinking about making upgrades to a bathroom in your home, check out this rebate from Cascade Water Alliance, which could put an extra $100 in your pocket. I think we can all agree that every little bit helps!
